McGregor’s Father Wanted Him to Have a Back-Up Plan
Tony McGregor, Conor’s father, wanted his son to follow his dreams wherever they would take him. He wanted his son to reach for the stars and go for it whenever it was possible. He didn’t believe in holding him back or discouraging his longing for a life as a fighter.
However, Tony McGregor also wanted his son Conor to be able to pay his own rent each month. It was towards that end that he urged his son to maintain a plumbing apprenticeship. This was Tony’s field of service and he knew that this could be Conor’s back-up plan.
We have established that the younger McGregor always knew what it was that he wanted. He wanted a successful fighting career. He also wanted a little more sleep. As a younger man, Tony tells a story of coming to Conor’s room to wake him up and finding his boy peering out from under the covers at him saying, “I don’t think this is for me.” That turned out to be a good choice.
