The economy of Modesto is largely based on agriculture as it’s surrounded by fertile soils. Things are far from stellar though, with over 10% unemployment and 19% of people living below the poverty line.
Also in Modesto, violent and property crime rates are higher than any other Californian city. The city is number 1 for car thefts, and there’s an estimated 5,000-10,000 gang members living here.
