11. Detroit, Michigan
This is probably the most well known city on this list, and one of the saddest stories. Once a booming hub of manufacturing, Detroit is now reduced to a shadow of its former glory. The population dropped by 25% from 2000 to 2010. This had a devastating effect and has left the city ridden with abandoned households and commercial buildings.
The stats that followed show very clearly the dismal situation. 14.5% unemployment, and 32.3% of the population living below the poverty line. With the outright highest crime rate of any city over 200,000 population, Detroit is certainly one of the worst places to live in America right now.
