The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Two wrestlers who have had notable careers outside of the ring had a fierce rivalry with each other. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Stone Cold Steve Austin have had several battles throughout their careers, with different outcomes and surprises every time.
In 1997, The Rock fought Stone Cold for the Intercontinental Title belt. Unfortunately for the Rock, Austin not only beat him, but he actually defeated him in under 6 minutes. That kind of beating stays with a man, and can cause an unquenchable thirst for revenge. The next night, he thought he would have it.
McMahon ordered Austin to give The Rock a rematch immediately, and Austin refused. This led to his forfeiting the belt to Johnson, but not after he hit him with a cheap-shot. In later battles, Johnson would steal Stone Cold’s personalized “smoking skull,” title belt, causing a deeper rift to develop between the adversaries. Johnson finally defeated Austin in Stone Cold’s final appearance in 2003.
