Hulk Hogan vs The Iron Sheik
On January 23, 1984, a legend was born. An up and coming young wrestler who was loud and boisterous was making a name for himself. As win after win started to pile up, people started to follow this guy who shook like the Incredible Hulk himself as he got worked up in the ring.
This big guy was Hulk Hogan, and he was making his mark. The match was between the Hulk and the Iron Sheik, a villain who represented the country of Iran and had a deadly finishing move called the “Camel Clutch.” Prior to this match, nobody had ever freed themselves from it, ever. The Sheik held the heavyweight title and had no intention of losing it, especially not to some young upstart.
As the battle waged, the Hulk seemed to have the upper hand, until he was caught by a cheap shot and the Iron Sheik seized his opportunity. He climbed in top of Hulk Hogan and placed him in the Camel Clutch. As he pulled back with all his might, the referee ran in to signal Hulk’s surrender, but it was not coming. In a feat of pure will that has never been duplicated, the Hulk powered through the Camel Clutch, shaking and writhing with fury all the way. He broke the unbreakable hold, pinned the evil Sheik and held the championship belt high for all of his fans to see. “Hulkamania” was born.
