Fighting is a Family Tradition
Apparently fighting is in McGregor’s blood. Most people don’t realize that McGregor’s father was a boxer during his younger years. He fought in some tournaments and had some club fights. He won some medals and cups and trophies along the way and enjoyed every minute of it.
Unlike his son however, McGregor’s father never felt a calling to compete in the sport as an adult. He didn’t have the drive and dedication to the sport the way his son obviously does. He was much more in tune with his responsibilities of the time. As he grew into adulthood, those responsibilities included raising Conor.
Making the safe and steady decision to focus on raising his family and providing for them through hard work and sacrifice, Conor’s father never pursued his possible stardom in the ring. He chose instead to remain a silent hero, to his family at home. Something tells me that Conor recognized that sacrifice as he was setting his father up financially for retirement.
