1. Ben Johnson
In the 1988 Seoul Olympics a Canadian runner named Ben Johnson shaved four-hundredths off the world record to take the gold medal. After, he exclaimed “I’d like to say my name is Benjamin Sinclair Johnson Jnr and this world record will last 50 years, maybe 100”.
Johnsons triumph was short lived however. Within hours Dr Park Jong-Sei at the Olympic Doping Control Center had discovered susupicious results in the urine sample taken from Johnson after the race. In the center less than a mile from where he had been awarded the Olympic gold it was found that Johnsons urine contained stanozolol, a dangerous anabolic steroid. He was stripped of his gold medal.
He served a 2 year suspension, but was banned for life in 1993 after testing positive for banned substances once again.
